PostHeaderIcon Trying to understand Copenhagen

I’m still trying to understand what President Obama is doing when he attends this conference in Copenhagen.  There seems to be a bit of a conspiracy theory that Obama will sign away our nation’s sovereignty, but I’m hesitant to jump on board with that theory until I have more information.

I started learning about this when someone sent me an email asking me to check out the following video:

I have no idea who Lord Christopher Monkton is and I’m suspicious of anyone who is so arrogant that he needs to refer to himself as “Lord” or “Sir”…  So I’ll take this video as information that needs to be examined further.

Looking at some other sources, I’ve come across an internet publication from a group of Ivy League types called the American Thinker.   They are discussing US plans with Japan to lead the way for 80% global emission reductions by 2050 amongst other environmental goals that, on the outset, seem like a great idea.

But now you start looking at the nitty-gritty and apply these goals to industrialized vs. emerging industrial nations and the problem becomes insane.  Even in discussing the ideals of a proposed treaty were met with resistance from emerging nations like China, India and 70+ other yet-to-industrialize nations.

I’m going to pick on China because it seems that you can’t buy ANYTHING in this country that isn’t “Made In China”.   Don’t we send enough money to China already?  I don’t understand why we need to pay for them to industrialize “green”.  Let them be big world polluters.  We can figure out consequences for non-compliance.  But I don’t believe we should be paying for them to industrialize like the rest of us.
We need to take the money we’d spend on China, India and the rest of them, and invest it in American manufacturing.  We should be aligning ourselves with Central and South American countries so we can compete together against the Eastern nations that hate us so much.  Is there a such thing as being hemispherically minded?
Okay – too many issues to think about and I’m digressing in my thoughts.  I’ll post more as I find out more.

So today, I read that President Obama has vowed to “finish the job” in Afghanistan. What does that mean? At this point, I’ve read a little bit and Time magazine seems to sum it up:

The war is now in its ninth year, and public support is waning. But Obama on Tuesday repeated his belief that neither al-Qaeda nor its allies can be permitted to flourish in Afghanistan. “We are going to dismantle and degrade their capabilities and ultimately dismantle and destroy their networks,” he said. “It is my intention to finish the job.”

It appears as if our President is about to order more troops over there.  I just want to remember that he just pledged to “finish the job”.  We’ll see, Mr. President.  I’m skeptical about such lofty goals unless, as was stated, he just pulls everyone out now.  I’m not saying that’s a good idea, but it would indeed finish that particular job while likely opening up a whole other set of miserable jobs to deal with the aftermath of a mass withdrawal…  none of which I’m an expert to talk about.

I guess the arguement of mass withdrawal is that the void will be filled by terroristic/militaristic “enemies” of our country – which is bad.

I’m done yapping.  I’ll post more as I learn more.

I’m going to try and commit to posting topics related to the things that President Obama has done that will either support re-voting for him or not in 2012. I’ve become near regretful that I voted for him (although the overall NY vote was destined to vote for him anyways). My wife has asked me to provide examples of things he’s done that are negative and I struggled to put together any specifics.

So now I’m going to try to better understand why I like or dislike our President with something more concrete than “he’s ruining our country.”

We’ll see how it goes. Feel free to respond.
